This update outlines the measures New Ventures BC is taking, in response to COVID-19. Many of New Ventures BC’s programs are delivered virtually. With the exception of some networking events, all programming will continue to run. Our staff will continue to support BC tech startups, working remotely.

New Ventures Competition, presented by Innovate BC

At New Ventures BC, we’re excited to have opened the 2020 New Ventures Competition, presented by Innovate BC.

Most of what we do with the New Ventures Competition is currently done virtually and will continue to run as usual. The submission process up to Round 2.5 consists solely of online evaluations and therefore will not be impacted.

Moving educational series online

Competition events are important to us. However, in regards to recent updates of COVID-19, and with respect to our participants’ and volunteers’ health and safety, we have moved all educational events scheduled in March and April online.

Our Educational Seminars and Startup Sprints will be offered via live streaming. Registrants will still be able to leverage these seminars in preparation for their Round 2 submissions.

Postponement of networking kickoff event

Our kickoff networking event, scheduled to take place on April 1, will be postponed and rescheduled. We look forward to connecting with you in person then.

Competition still open for registration until April 7th, 11:00pm.

ISI Grant program

Our program staff are working remotely and are processing grants for the ISI Grant program.  If you have an ISI Grant and need to reduce hours due to work closures, we will still accept grant payments up to $1000 minimum ($2000 in student salary) and will consider other exceptions where needed.

Applications for the Summer 2020, Fall 2020 and Fall 2021 are now open. We accept applications on a rolling basis. If you have questions about the grant program, please email us at hireastudent@newventuresbc.com.

Distance Venture Accelerator Program and Online Market Validation Training

Did you know our Distance Venture Accelerator Program and Online Market Validation Training is offered completely virtually?

We are still taking applications for our Distance Venture Accelerator Program at this time. As always, any BC based startup can sign up to take our free Online Market Validation Training program.

Keeping up to date with us

For events from May onwards, we will continue to monitor the situation and follow best practices as they arise. Updated schedules of events will be available via email, on our website and through our social media / slack channels.

If you have any questions or would like to book a phone call to chat with our staff, please contact us at contact@newventuresbc.com.
