Victoria-based Cuboh is a delivery application management platform that helps restaurants use delivery applications like Caviar and Grubhub without all the hurdles they come with. With Cuboh, restaurants automate most of the manual labour required, while managing only one system.

Reason for competing:

The NVBC competition is one of the milestones that Cuboh plans on hitting this year. They hope it will help close their seed round, and grow their customer acquisition and key partnerships. Access to non-dilutive capital will allow Cuboh to experiment with how they allocate key resources, and allow them to chase bigger accounts and partnerships. As they are coming to define their product market fit, they hope to redefining the way restaurants use delivery applications, allowing them to distance themselves from their competitors. It is because of this that securing a first place win in the NVBC competition will allow Cuboh to grow their product team and bring in more experienced people.

Company overview:

Cuboh was initially an analytics solution for restaurant managers. While that didn’t work out, it did introduce them to a huge problem that they saw when selling their solution – several tablets, and often, an employee handling them. It was clear that restaurants were not only paying high commissions to these delivery applications, but they were also adding a new extra layer of complexity to their operations that made the online business not worth it. Employees were not getting tipped online, but they had to put significant time into that side of the business. Thus, automating most of the online business was a no brainer.

Competitive advantages:

Customer discovery and validation has been amazing for Cuboh. In their first two days they were able to sign their first two customers. While they didn’t have a product for the first two months, they were able to pre-sell a solution that they now admit, they didn’t know how to build. How ever, the lightning adoption was a key driver to getting this far, and for landing their first 10 customers – one of the hardest thing to do. The traction Cuboh got was so good that they learned how to build their product, built it, and shipped it in a month to over 15 restaurant locations and over 10 different restaurant companies.

Five-year outlook:

In the next 5 years, Cuboh will have a full suite solution to help restaurants manage all aspects of their delivery application business, from menu to dispatching. Additionally, key expansions to South America, Asia, and Europe should already be in place. Securing partnerships with key players in the industry like Postmates and Amazon are milestones that are also in the works.
