Fraser Pogue is better equipping outdoor winter sports enthusiasts by helping them predict the likelihood of an avalanche. Most avalanche fatalities happen because people don’t assess snow conditions properly.

As an avid skier and snowmobiler himself, Pogue created AvyStick, which is plunged into the snow and lets users understand the risk of an avalanche in a matter of seconds.

AvyStick is adapted from a well-known apparatus used to find people who are buried in the snow. Pogue is redesigning that device to proactively keep people safe before an accident occurs.

In the fall of 2015, he hopes to start shipping out the first round of products.
