The Province’s Sam Cooper highlighted the upcoming BCIC New Ventures Competition in today’s paper comparing the competition’s final jury to the panel of venture capitalists in CBC’s popular Dragons’ Den series.

Compared to Dragon’s Den’s glammed-up version of a high-pressure pitch to powerful venture capitalists, the BCIC contest judges are far more “nice and constructive,” BCIC program manager Angie Schick said with a laugh, in an interview.

With 2008 Top 10 competitor Vineyard Networks being acquired for $28 million last week, all eyes will be on this year’s crop of competitors.

We may even see a couple of them make their way into the Dragons’ Den.

2013 competition details will be released later this month with registration opening in March.

In the meantime, CBC Dragons’ Den producers will be in BC later this month with their open audition tour.
