2012 BCIC New Ventures competitor Spruik, an online software-as-a-service referral platform, announced last week that they had raised “more than $200,000″ in private investment.
The funding was secured from the owner of SplitMango Media, a web development firm also based in Vancouver, who will partner with the startup. Read more

Vancouver’s Twothirds Water Inc. was awarded the $15,000 Vancity Social Venture prize in the 2012 BCIC-New Ventures Competition.
Now the for-profit social enterprise has launched a campaign on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to offer Tapp™ for pre-sale to online customers. Tapp is an extremely simple and versatile water filter designed for some of the most difficult circumstances in the world.
Six months of competition came to an end last night as the winners of the 12th annual BCIC-New Ventures Competition were announced in Vancouver.
From this year’s 146 applicants, top prizes were awarded to an online learning platform, a dental implant technology provider and an online child caregiver search tool.
“Each year our jury is extremely impressed with the quality of companies that enter the competition, and this year was no exception,” said Bob de Wit, Executive Director of the New Ventures BC Society. Read more
The BCIC-New Ventures Competition started with 146 companies and today have narrowed the field to ten finalist start-up technology companies that will pitch for $235,000 in cash and prizes.
This year’s top ten includes companies from Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island featuring new technologies in the IT, life sciences, and cleantech sectors.

The ten finalist companies have completed three jury rounds, attended education seminars, and met with business mentors to reach this point. All companies will now pitch in-person to a private jury. The jury will choose the winning companies, which will be announced at the 12th annual BCIC-New Ventures Competition Awards Ceremony on September 26th.
