A New Standard for Cell Research
ImageCyte Technologies is reimagining microplates—the essential lab tools used to study cells—with a next-gen solution designed to transform how scientists conduct drug discovery, cancer research, and biological studies.
Spun out of the University of British Columbia, ImageCyte manufactures high-density microplates embedded with millions of nanowells—tiny structures that isolate individual cells or small clusters. These advanced plates plug seamlessly into existing lab equipment, enabling researchers to redesign experiments without overhauling their workflows.
Traditional microplates generally have 96 wells. ImageCyte’s microplates further divide these by putting thousands of smaller wells inside, vastly increasing experimental resolution, throughput, and precision. This leap in capability helps scientists better understand disease mechanisms, test potential treatments, and accelerate the path to new therapies.
Plates and Patents
What they’ve done: ImageCyte has launched its beta-stage Nanowell Imaging Plate and is already testing it with early users. The company has presented at top international conferences and secured strong interest from researchers and industry partners. On the IP front, the biotech startup holds a granted US patent and has a PCT application underway—laying a strong foundation for commercialization.
Why NVBC: For ImageCyte, the New Ventures BC Competition, presented by Innovate BC, is more than just a contest—it’s a chance to sharpen strategy, connect with expert mentors, and access a network of investors and peers. Competing validates their business model and puts them alongside BC’s most promising startups.
Up next: The Vancouver startup is focused on gathering real-world data and customer feedback to validate product-market fit and de-risk future investment. With strong early traction, the team is preparing for a $3M equity raise to scale manufacturing and launch commercially.
A Call for Investment
ImageCyte wants researchers and investors to remember one thing: their product helps achieve meaningful scientific breakthroughs. The Nanowell Imaging Plate brings precision to cell-based assays by keeping cells isolated – enabling researchers to generate high-quality, trustworthy data. It’s a simple upgrade that delivers big results.
Now entering the commercialization phase, the company offers investors a unique opportunity to join at a pivotal stage—with a de-risked product, strong IP, and growing demand from the research community.
