Moving Women’s Health from the Margins to the Mainstream
For decades, a quiet crisis has persisted across healthcare: more than 40% of women experience sexual health concerns at some point in their lives, yet it remains one of the most underserved and stigmatized areas in medicine. Millions of women navigating life transitions—including menopause, cancer recovery, relationship changes, stress, and other life events—routinely experience sexual health concerns that remain largely untreated. Too often, they’re told their symptoms are simply “normal,” leaving them to suffer in silence or face a highly fragmented system with sparse specialist care.
This neglect is a widespread public health issue affecting relationships, confidence, and mental wellbeing. While evidence-based psychological interventions like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness yield life-changing results, the barriers to care are towering—specialized clinics are rare, waitlists stretch for months, and private therapy costs remain prohibitive.
To break this cycle, eSense Health has engineered an intuitive, self-directed digital therapeutic that brings the same effective components of specialized clinical therapy directly to patients. By transforming complex, face-to-face psychological protocols into a structured, highly private digital experience, the Vancouver startup ensures gold-standard care is no longer limited by geography, high costs, or the availability of a local specialist.
By framing sexual health firmly as an essential pillar of overall healthcare, eSense is driving a vital cultural and clinical shift. They’re equipping women with tools they can access on their own schedules, turning what was once a marginalized conversation into an empowered, data-backed path to wellness.
Clinical Proof into Commercial Power
What They’ve Done: Backed by nearly a decade of research and development, the eSense team secured over $1 million in non-dilutive funding to build and clinically validate their digital therapeutic platform. Through a randomized controlled trial, they proved the platform’s efficacy: women using eSense experienced an 87% improvement in sexual desire and a 77% reduction in sexual distress—outcomes comparable to traditional, in-person clinical therapy. Transitioning rapidly into their commercial phase, the team has launched a North American pilot program, onboarding healthcare providers and actively delivering care to users from their waitlist.
Why NVBC: The 2026 New Ventures BC Competition, presented by Innovate BC, has pushed the leadership team to sharpen how they communicate the commercial opportunity behind their science. The rigorous process forces the founders to evaluate every facet of the business—from intellectual property and financial modeling to scalability and distribution. This intense pressure-testing has helped translate world-class clinical data into a precise, investable business case.
Up Next: Over the next 12 months, eSense will complete commercialization validation by refining customer acquisition, healthcare provider referral pathways, pricing, engagement, and unit economics before raising a larger Seed round. This disciplined approach will position the company to scale with demonstrated commercial performance rather than assumptions. This capital will give the team the resources to scale, making evidence-based sexual healthcare accessible to millions of women across North America.
Distribution without Disruption
Great science is only half the battle; the rest is distribution.
The team quickly discovered that understanding patient behavior, healthcare partnerships, and go-to-market execution requires just as much rigorous strategy as running a randomized controlled trial. Working closely with women and healthcare providers throughout development, eSense was designed around the real-world needs of patients rather than the technology itself. This patient-centred approach shaped both the product and the commercialization strategy, ensuring care is simple to access, easy for providers to recommend, and designed to scale.
