Working to mitigate environmental damage and heavy costs caused by oil pipeline leaks, Burnaby’s Illusense Inc. is developing an innovative technology to detect and prevent leaks in oil pipelines.
The technology, which relies on established optical techniques, will traverse the interior of oil pipelines on pipeline inspection gauges (PIGS) and collect data to be post-processed.
The data is relayed to pipeline operators, to inform their decision-making and to provide a higher level of detail that can prevent leaks before they occur.
