VICTORIA, BC – Getting fit while on the job may soon become the new normal, if Victoria-based startup and our Distance Venture Accelerator Program client, Ergonomyx, achieves their Kickstarter campaign goal to fund their innovative workspace fitness devices.

Ergonomyx is a digital health technology company that manufactures workspace fitness products that connect to cloud services and mobile apps. The company has created a line of workspace fitness products designed to encourage a healthier lifestyle while working at a desk. The products include a Smart Sit-and-Stand Desk and a Smart under-the-Desk Bike.

The Smart Smart Sit-and-Stand Desk allows users to work at a higher function all day long.  This desk design is based on the fact that standing yields up to 10% more productivity with higher energy levels, improved concentration, fewer headaches and overall health improvement.  In fact, according to recent studies extended sitting during the day can increase blood pressure which is a major risk factor for heart disease; however, research has proven that using the Smart Sit-and-Stand DESK in the “stand” position directly after lunch decreases the risk of high blood pressure.

For those who prefer to alternate positions while working, the Smart under-the-Desk Bike is the other option.  This breakthrough equipment enables users to pedal while sitting at their desks and monitor their physical activity while working throughout the day.  It is especially useful for those suffering from restless legs syndrome.

But that’s not all. To optimise user results, the company has created the Ergonomyx app which allows users to connect to the workspace devices to set up their preferences and track their fitness data.

When asked about the motivation for creating the workspace fitness devices, R&D Engineer, Sergio Perez, explained: “Finding ways to keep active while at a desk for eight hours a day is a 21st century challenge faced by a very large percentage of the population. Many people with a sit and stand desk forget to use them.  We want to make it easier for people looking to combine work with fitness and so we created a fun and accessible gamified environment surrounding workspace fitness, while also filling a hole in the market.

To realize their objective of revolutionizing workspace fitness, Ergonomyx has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $27,500. Anyone can back the campaign with as little as $5; however, donations of $329 CAD or more will be rewarded with one of the fitness solutions.
