The following blog post was written by Alice Lam and was published earlier this week on BCIC’s blog as part of a series profiling BCIC-NewVentures Competition: Regional Top 20 Finalists.

Today we profile KOK Technologies Inc. (KTI), a top 20 finalist in the BCIC-New Ventures Competition: Regional. The finalists are in the last round of the competition and are perfecting their final pitches to present to a panel of experts made up of VCs, angels and financiers. Winners of the BCIC-New Ventures Competition: Regional will be announced on February 24, 2010. Stay tuned!

It is estimated that over 30,000 products containing natural rubber are used everyday – from car tires, latex gloves to the soles on our shoes. Capitalizing on this demand, KOK Technologies Inc. (KTI) has designed a dry and chemicals-free extractor that recovers the natural rubber from the rubber-bearing plant called Taraxacum kok-saghyz, which can be grown in North America due to its climatic similarities to Central Asia. KTI has two arms: one will provide proprietary rubber extraction equipment, while the other will extract, purify and sell the natural rubber and inulin based on its patented process for the recovery of natural rubber from plants.

Founder Dr. Anvar Burarov has enjoyed the feedback from the BCIC-New Ventures Competition: Regional judges and is looking forward to the next and final round of the competition where he will be matched with mentors.

Congratulations to KOK Technologies Inc., we wish you the best of luck in the last leg of the competition!
