One Response to “Video Replay: Seminar #4 – The Business Case”
Of all the excellent NVBC seminars to date Volker’s is the most endearing for the ‘aspiring new biz venturist’ because you get to be as close as you can to someone who has built many very successful start-up companies and can smell success and failure at a glance. If you can dry-run your concept by him .. you get the best virtual-reality-test of your cherished baby before going into the shark tank with others that may not be so compassionate.
Think of Mike Volker as BC’s own Yoda, getting you mentally and numerically psyched up to deal with the ethereal and dark forces in the nether worlds of capital and finance. Personally I have enjoyed looking at his 09 as well as the 2010 presentations and comparing themes. You get a really good feel how the BC Angel market has evolved (maybe devolved) in a single year and how values and sectors are playing out in a very turbulent, dynamic and difficult market. Even with these stressing economic times Mike asserts (and I agree) that this is the best time to launch a solid new-business, because the frail and the amateurs don’t risk in this climate and for the brave and skilled you can cut out from the unfunded herd and seek out the Angels that are still in the game backing winners.
