Seminar #6 – Social Networking for Startups on May 18th

This week New Ventures BC adds an exciting new seminar to our series – Social Networking for Startups. Veteran Social Media Marketing speakers Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo of Capulet Communications will cover the hot topic.

Barefoot is a writer, marketer, technologist, and one of Vancouver’s original bloggers.  He regularly speaks about marketing and Web 2.0 – at events like Les Blogs, Blog Business Summit and Northern Voice. Szabo has worked as a writer, marketer and publicist for all kinds of companies – from Vancouver’s largest live theatre to Ireland’s smallest start-ups.

Together they have written multiple books including the recently published Friend with Benefits – A Social Media Marketing Handbook.

The rules of marketing have changed. With viral YouTube videos racking up millions of views, popular bloggers reaching more readers than their traditional media counterparts, and Facebook mavens influencing thousands of their friends, marketing professionals simply cannot ignore the web’s new communication channels. But this new brand of marketing can be intimidating if you’re unfamiliar with the new tools, the evolving culture, and the unwritten rules surrounding them. Friends with Benefits: A Social Media Marketing Handbook is a tactical guide, filled with tricks, tips, and real-world case studies that show you how to reach out to the new online influencers to increase your company’s online visibility and bring more visitors to your website.

While it’s too late to enter the competition, the seminar series is still open to the public and this one promises to be packed.

Register online now and arrive at 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 18th at the SFU Segal School of Business to network, enjoy refreshments, and grab a good seat to watch the seminar. The cost to attend any individual seminar is $20 and students with valid I.D. cards may attend for free.
